Lake Mavrovo
The dam of Lake Mavrovo was built in 1952 at the beginning of the gorge part of Mavrovo River. It covers area of 13,7 km2 . Although it is artificial, Lake Mavrovo fits perfectly in the natural surroundings and inspires with its beauty, especially viewed by ski terrains of Mountain Bistra. Besides fishing, this lake offers opportunities for camping and walking. There are the resorts of big game, the ethno village Galichnik, the wonderful mountain Bistra. One of the most impressive views over the lake is the old, flooded church of St. Nikola – which can be seen only partially – a part of the church and a half of the church bell during certain period of the year when water reaches its highest level. This church was flooded while the lake was being built. Although it has been under water for longer period of time, its solid building occasionally can be seen when water level is lower. The church is on kind of protective mark of the village and the wider region.
